Why do we educate, and are we sure we’re doing it right?

Deani Van Pelt is many things, but first, she is a mother. When her own daughter was very young, she realized quickly that many questions needed to be answered surrounding education. Enter Charlotte Mason education. Charlotte Mason was a pioneer in shifting the way students were viewed and therefore taught. Deani has devoted her life to taking that foundation and making education better for children all over the world. Listen as Deani shares her passion for ensuring excellent education for the next generation of learners. 

Deani Van Pelt

Dr. Deani Van Pelt of Canada is chair of the Charlotte Mason Institute board. She is a Visiting Research Fellow in Charlotte Mason Studies at the University of Cumbria and a Non-Resident Scholar at Baylor University’s Center for School Leadership. She currently leads Edvance, an association of over 95 independent Christian schools, and is a senior fellow at the think tanks Cardus and the Fraser Institute where her work focuses on education policy. She has been a professor of education at Redeemer University, a secondary school math and business subjects teacher, and for a decade or so she was a homeschool parent to their three children. Digitizing the Armitt Museum’s Charlotte Mason Collection in the Lake District of England, after she defended her master’s thesis on Charlotte Mason’s Design for Education, was one of the most enjoyable collaborations she’s ever been involved in.
