Katie is originally from Arkansas but moved to Kabul Afghanistan in 2005 to teach at the International School of Kabul. This is where she met her husband, Khalid Ahmadzai who is from Afghanistan. They moved to the US in 2009 but remain tightly connected to Afghanistan. Khalid grew up in the midst of turmoil and war in Afghanistan and experienced displacement several times. He has a masters in public service and currently serves as Director of Economic Advancement at Canopy NWA, a grassroots non-profit that helps refugees resettle and flourish in Northwest Arkansas. Katie and Khalid have three kiddos: Attiya, Heelai, and Ehsan, and enjoy interacting with the international community in Fayetteville, AR.
