Kristi Velasquez has been with NorthStar Academy for 5 years as a teacher and curriculum writer. She is married to her husband Todd and they have two children. Todd serves in the United States military, so their family has moved many times as he has served in active duty. Learn how being in the military connects to being a disciple without a permanent home. Kristi believes you can still have authentic connections with people even if you aren’t in the same room. Hear how she uses that to grow her devotion to teaching and empowering students all over the world.

I’m a high school drop-out prevention teacher turned online curriculum writer who loves to grow sunflowers because they’ll thrive in any environment, which is important because I move every few years. We are an active duty military family that loves to hike, forage, paint and swim. In education, I’m most passionate about empowering teenagers to use their voices. At home, I’m pretty passionate about friendship with my neighbors.

Such wisdom from a truly lovely source. I could listen to Kristi’s heart forever. She offers her deep, deep reflections with love and with humility. She shows up with such a genuine understanding of self and others that it’s hard to not want more and more of her voice in your head. What a delightful interview. I’m inspired to go out and offer “just one” more hand to hold.
