From NSA Student to Lawyer

Apr 22, 2020 | Education | 1 comment

NorthStar Academy alumna Melissa Malone has always been passionate about advocating for others. This played a heavy role in her decision to become a lawyer. The rigorous courses and time management skills she learned at NSA helped to prepare her for law school. The flexibility of online courses allowed Melissa to participate in a mock trial program, giving her the scholarship opportunity to compete at the college level. Hear how Melissa trusted God through these seasons of life and how He continued to be faithful in times of uncertainty.

Show Notes:

6:03 – Jesus advocates for us so we must advocate for each other.

8:08 – Ways to be an advocate:

  • befriend someone who is being bullied
  • do yard work for a neighbor who needs it
  • help an elderly person with something.

These are all examples of being an example of Jesus’s love to those around you.

11:45- She wanted options for higher level courses, and NorthStar was the answer to that.

12:30 – She loved the flexibility of NorthStar

15:22 – biggest take away was time management

16:13 – that skill really transferred well for me into College and Law School

17:35 – What would you say to a Mom who is wondering if online school is for her child? “I would say it’s worth a shot.”

19:04 – After she started with NSA, she was able to join a Mock Trial Team. A Mock Trial Team is where students take the role of the attorney and the witnesses and you conduct a mini trial.

20:04 – She was recruited at the college level to continue to compete in Mock Trial. She was given a scholarship for it.

22:35 – There are all sorts of ways to interact with other students at NSA.

  • Chat
  • Mission trips
  • Student council

23:41 – Can students go to college after getting a diploma at NorthStar? Absolutely!

29:24 – Seeing God’s faithfulness in the tiny details of all that had to happen for us to move forward in our lives and be in a better place.

31:20 – “God has managed all the details better than I could have done in my best planner. When my plans go astray, He is there. He is holding us.”

36:10 – One of my favorite phrases is, “You have to say no to good things so that you can say yes to great things.”
